How Great Britain Went Mad—BREXITmania
Member $29; Non-Member $38

As we go to press, the biggest question in Europe is: what in the world is going on in the Britain? Will the UK even survive the current political chaos? We’ll trace the BREXIT phenomenon from the “non-binding” June 2016 referendum called by PM David Cameron, through the efforts of his successor, Theresa May, to steer a course to a “hard Brexit,” a full break with the EU, the single market, and the customs union while regaining full control over borders, trade deals, and applying laws within its own territory. Parliament has been divided between “hard” and “soft” Brexiteers (advocating, e.g., remaining in the customs union), and those demandingdemand a new referendum. “Crashing out” of the EU with no agreement with the remaining members is widely viewed as economic suicide. How did it all happen? How did it turn out? What are the implications for Britain, Europe, and the world?

Treasure Hunts—An Amazing Year in Archaeology
Member $29; Non-Member $38

Each year, Jim delights in reviewing the most important, most surprising, most arresting, and quirkiest archaeological discoveries of the past 18 months or so. Among the finds: the oldest intact shipwreck, a gilded mummy mask, an Aztec tomb revealed by an earthquake, bread baked 4,000 years before the dawn of agriculture, a painted tomb in Italy and a banquet frozen in time, new Nasca lines in Peru, and the discovery in Hiroshima of the bones of William Adams, known in Japan as Miura Anjin, the inspiration for James Clavell’s Shogun. And there’s much, much more, illustrated in a great slide show.
