Prophecy arose at a particular time in the history of Israel and died out after a few centuries, but it has lived on in different ways throughout the centuries.  Briefly we will explore the task of the prophets of ancient Israel, but our main concern in these two presentations will be on the nature of prophecy as it developed beyond Israel in the early Church and in other religious traditions.
