Americans have written about the environment from colonial times to the present moment of environmental crisis, creating a colorful tradition of literature in dialogue with the nation's diverse landscapes. This talk will give an outline of that tradition as we explore works from a wide variety of writers such as, Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, and Rachel Carson.
