Abraham Joshua Heschel and Mordecai Kaplan are the foremost Jewish thinkers of the twentieth century. Their writings capture both different modes of Jewish living – one focusing on culture and ethnicity, and the other on spirituality and mysticism. Yet, they deeply respected each other, and their personal stories mirror their philosophies. We will explore each of them in turn, discussing and showing the way they continue to shape American Jews.
